Pharmacy aides work under the supervision of licensed pharmacists of pharmacy technicians for whom they typically perform administrative tasks. Such tasks often include stocking shelves, accommodating phone calls, and operating cash registers. Depending on their employers, they may also be asked to prepare insurance paperwork and coordinate with the agencies. Typically, they also maintain and update patients' records.
Employment Outlook
In 2008, such workers held 54,900 jobs in the United States. One year later, that figure decreased to 52,230. The number of employed pharmacy aides in the country is expected to continuously decline as more and more administrative functions are passed on to pharmacy technicians due to the effort of businesses to cut costs. In fact, the employment figures of such workers in 2018 is expected to decreased by 6% from 2008 figures.
