Anyone who enjoys working with others and is interested in working in the medical field may want to consider a pharmacy technician career. Pharmacy technicians work very closely with licensed pharmacists. They prepare medications by making sure the right amount of pills are put into the medicine bottles, and they make sure the bottles are properly labeled.
Pharmacy technicians work in hospitals, grocery stores, nursing homes, and retail pharmacies. The job growth in this field is expected to increase dramatically for the next several years as the aging population increases the demand for prescription drugs. Aspiring pharmacy technicians should be in good shape since they will spend many hours on their feet and may have to lift heavy boxes. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, Employment Outlook Handbook 2008-2009 Edition).
Pharmacy Technician Education
It is possible to begin a pharmacy technician career by getting on the job training. In fact this is how most pharmacy technicians get started, but a person who already has experience, along with an educational background in the field, will have more job opportunities. A person can get training by volunteering at a hospital, or by working as an aide at a pharmacy.
